The Little Crooked Bookshelf

CIRCUS MIRANDUS
by Cassie Beasley

This week's pick is by Cottager Jamie Michalak.

What it's all about . . .
Even though his mean Great-Aunt Gertrudis doesn’t approve, Micah believes the stories his dying Grandpa Ephraim tells him of the magical Circus Mirandus and its greatest magician, The Lightbender. Finally, Grandpa Ephraim offers proof. The Circus is real. And the Lightbender owes Ephraim a miracle. With the help of his skeptical friend Jenny, Micah sets out to find the Circus and the man he believes will save his grandfather.

Why it's on The Little Crooked Bookshelf . . .
We love when a buzzed-about book lives up to the hype, and Circus Mirandus delivers. This imaginative fantasy hooks readers from its very first lines and doesn't let go until its heartwarming and surprising conclusion. Cassie Beasley is a writer to watch.

Our favorite line . . .
Just because a magic is small doesn't mean it is unimportant.

Why kids will love it . . .
Mystery, magic, adventure, a giant floating gorilla. . . . kids will find lots to love in this page-turning fantasy. Hand this one to fans of Roald Dahl, Harry Potter, and Peter Pan.

Why grown-ups will love it . . .
Because Circus Mirandus is a spellbinding and poignant read-aloud. The perfect book to share with 9-12 year olds at home or in the classroom.

  1. It's wonderful, Maria! A good one for reading aloud to kids, too. I read it with my boys.
