The Little Crooked Bookshelf

Animal Opposites
by Petr Horáček

What it's all about . . .
This is the most awesome pop-up book that pairs unlikely animals in funny and surprising ways. The book actually tries to surprise the reader page after page with sturdy yet sneaky interactive pop-up elements. (We were not expecting that spikey porcupine!)

Why it’s on the Crooked Bookshelf . . .
The illustrations are bold and vibrant, plus the book, much like the author/illustrator, has a terrific sense of humor. Horacek grew up in Prague and now lives in England. He loves cake, looking at the sky, and watching people walk their dogs.

Our favorite lines . . .
Heavy hippo. Light butterfly.

Our favorite illustration . . .

Why kids will love it . . .

The vivid animals and interactive pop-up elements will leave kids wanting to turn the pages again and again and again.

Why grown-ups will love it . . .
It’s a fun and gorgeous book that also teaches a good lesson in opposites. Minimal words. Bold pictures. It’s a happy book to read.
